Falk Struckmann, Baritone/Bass-Baritone

Falk Struckmann is considered one of the most important Bass-Baritones of our time,  who recently has been devoting himself increasingly to the Bass repertoire with just as  much international success. 

In the current season he will appear as Pizarro (Fidelio) at San Francisco Opera and make  his role debut as Doktor (Wozzeck) at Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse. In this very role  he will appear at Opéra de Paris, which will present him also as Klingsor in the new  production of Parsifal. At Gstaad Festival he is planned to sing Rocco in concert  performances of Fidelio

In the past seasons he sang all three big bass roles in the Ring Cycle at Staatsoper Berlin  at Daniel Barenboim’s invitation. Semperoper Dresden contracted him as Fafner, Alberich  and Hagen with Christian Thielemann conducting. He also made his impressive role debut  as the Grand Inquisitor at Staatsoper Stuttgart in a new production by Lotte de Beer. 

At the centre of Mr. Struckmann’s extensive repertoire are Richard Wagner’s big dramatic  roles such as Holländer, König Heinrich (Lohengrin), König Marke (Tristan und Isolde)  and Hans Sachs (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). In Der Ring des Nibelungen he has  portrayed Wotan/Wanderer, Alberich, Fafner, Hunding, Gunther and Hagen and in  Parsifal he has sung Gurnemanz and Amfortas, as well as Klingsor. Furthermore his  repertoire includes Don Pizarro and Rocco (Fidelio), Kaspar and Eremit (Der Freischütz), 

Jochanaan (Salome), Orest (Elektra), Barak (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Borromeo  (Palestrina) and the title role in Mathis der Maler. His important roles in the Italian  repertoire include Scarpia (Tosca) and Jago (Otello). He has performed in Bluebeard’s  Castle in both concert and staged productions.  

Born in Heilbronn Mr. Struckmann began his career in Kiel and Basel, and from there he  quickly went to all the important opera houses and festivals around the world. He  regularly works with the world’s leading conductors, including Daniel Barenboim,  Christian Thielemann, Kirill Petrenko, Riccardo Muti, Simone Young and Bertrand de Billy.  Mr. Struckmann has been named “Kammersänger” by both the Wiener and the Berliner  Staatsoper. He has performed in all major opera houses, including the Metropolitan  Opera New York, the Teatro alla Scala Milano, the Royal Opera House London, the Opéra  National de Paris, the Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, the San Francisco Opera, the Lyric  Opera Chicago and the Semperoper Dresden. He made his debut at the Bayreuth Festival  in 1993 as Kurwenal in a production by Heiner Müller under the baton of Daniel  Barenboim. This was followed by productions of the Ring under James Levine and  Christian Thielemann and Parsifal. He appeared at the Salzburg Festival in Tristan und  Isolde and in Bluebeard’s Castle. He sang Don Pizarro at the Lucerne Festival conducted  by Claudio Abbado.  

Essentially all of his roles have been published on CD or DVD.
